FACT projects

Trinity refurbishment
It's 18 years, since we transformed Trinity into our residential centre, during which time tens of thousands of youngsters have enjoyed courses onboard. Internally the fit-out is performing well, but we do have some major needs in the area of plumbing services and, externally, decks and deck fittings, as well as hull and topsides painting.

Dinghy training fleet additions
Keeping the fleet up to date and keeping pace with modern dinghy sail training trends is one of FACT's priorities. This year, we wish to replace the pico fleet and our oldest wayfarer.

Ropes Course
In our determination to bring on new activities, this is the next! Very much in early planning, an adventure and initiative low ropes course for all abilities designed, built and maintained by a leading industry provider.

Bursary Fund
The Fund disburses around £10,000 a year, paying for places for young people in need, ranging from those with disabilities, to ex-offenders. But the Fund needs constant topping-up from generous friends and supporters. Some give regularly to this fund; we also welcome one-off gifts from friends and trusts. Gifts can be made online from the Bursary Fund page. And don't miss our Bursary Fund Gift Shop!

Plain Kate
Our second accommodation vessel, a barge-style former motor yacht, provides important accommodation for eight staff/volunteers. Her cosy traditional build and wood panelling is super but she needs lots of loving care. Go to the Plain Kate blog for the latest on refurb progress, and the opportunity to donate online.

Trinity loo and shower for people with disabilities
We wish to adapt Trinity's forward shower and toilet to be wheelchair-friendly.

Conversion of Trinity's engine room
We wish to adapt Trinity's engine room to create a second gathering, rest and activity space for guests. This presents big practical challenges, as we'd need to remove a lot of large, heavy machinery. At the same time, we do not wish to lose the 'engine room' ambience.

Volunteer Development
Training and personal development are high on our list of priorities for volunteers, many volunteers come to us as young as 14yrs and they can very quickly become significant staff even eventually joining the team full time. We provide skills training, much of which has currency in other centres and in the jobs market: RYA dinghy & powerboating, first aid, basic food hygiene, life saving etc.

Our in-house training is jointly funded by FACT and the volunteers themselves; from time-to-time we have received specific support for this area – we'd like to see it more strongly underwritten.
